    This is my favorite tips! If creating your course content is giving you nightmares, use shortcuts such as premade content and premade templates for online course business. 

    Try using Done-For-You content packages and teach your tribe with content in it.

    You will not only get top-quality lessons on various topics, you can also customize and brand the content and really make your own.

    Create a checklist, action plans, exercises, resource directories and more using the done for you content..

    When I started my business, I bypass this important step to do market research, hence I was stuck for quite a long time.

    When I said long, it was about 2 years of going back and forth back to square one. I was unclear about my course topic, customer problem, and the demand.

    My point is if you are trying to create an online course, don’t miss this step. ‼️

    By following the tips in this blogpost ??3 Tips To Choose Your Perfect Course Idea, you will have already done the most important part of researching your market which is identifying your ideal client.

    One point to keep in mind here, your ideal customer should also be your ideal potential clients. 

    Ultimately, looking at the bigger picture you want the ideal customer who takes action and “graduates” your course to go on to become your one-on-one client or a member of your Elite VIP Group or Mastermind.

    How to successfully researching your market

    Market research strategy #1 : Attend similar webinar

    Here’s a great way to research your market:

    ➡️ Attend webinars given by top related-field coaches.

    Focus on the comments streaming in the chat box on the webinar. That’s where you’ll often find real pain points.

    For example, if you are a life coach specializing in confidence building, listening to a “How to Become Wealthy” webinar can actually be very valuable since a common complaint of those lacking in confidence is they don’t make enough money so you can pretty much count on them being interested in attending webinars on financial well-being.

    The comments streaming in the chatbox of a “big” webinar (where the attendees number in the thousands) very quickly begin to take on a common theme. 

    You will hear things that may surprise you repeated over and over again. 

    For example:

    • * “I’m overweight”
    • * “My husband is not supportive of my business”
    • * “I feel like a fraud”
    • * “I’m broke/I’m in financial trouble”

    Comments like these that are repeated multiple times in a variety of ways but essentially mean the same thing. It will tip you off to:

    • Ideas to put on the back burner for future launches, campaigns or courses
    • Take out groups of people you don’t want to deal with
    • Get brilliant “sparks” of ideas for your perfect course!

    People say unguarded things in the heat of the moment. They let slip what’s really bothering them in the comments. It’s almost like a confessional.

    And what you’re hearing are their real issues.

    So, just from our four little examples of common complaints in our wealth webinar, you as a life coach might want to ignore comments not relevant to your area of expertise, and focus on the personal expressions of doubt repeated over and over. 

    Based on reading those repeated comments, you first want to create a course that repels those in financial trouble, since that’s not your focus. 

    If your brand focus is on reaching already-achieving, competent businesswomen with hidden, self-sabotaging insecurities, the repeated complaint of feeling like a fraud might inspire you to create a course called: “Freeing Your Successful Self from Your Inner Imposter (and Claiming Your Place at the Top)”. 

    Market research strategy #2 : forums

    Forum like Quora is great for you to your market research.

    Complaints and wishes expressed in social media groups, blog comments, and forums are also helpful in identifying pain points and problems related to your course niche. 

    You can compile all the input that you get from reading forums and the comments but remember to always run them through the filter of “is this right for your brand or market?”

    P/s A great place to compile and organize all your input and ideas that you get is by using Trello! Don’t mess up your brain. Your brain is only to capture ideas not storing them 😉

    Market research strategy #3 : Udemy

    One more very good and effective way to see if people will really pay for the type of course ideas you have in mind is to check it in big teaching websites like Udemy or Lynda.com , where there are over 4,000 courses (over 900 for business).

    Your Tasks Today is

    • 1. Open Udemy.com or Lynda.com 
    • 2. Search for popular topics in your field or niche…
    • 3. Then note what is missing in the course
    • 4. Check what is the common question that being asked for. 

    Market research strategy #4 : Amazon

    You can also do market research with Amazon.com

    Check to see if there are books teaching your topic and especially if many of them are best sellers. That proves that there is a paying market for your niche

    Then you can also read the reviews to find out:

    • What people loved about these books (your essential components or focus)
    • What people didn’t like (what’s missing … that you can teach!)

    Market research strategy #5: Youtube 

    You check out video sites like Vimeo and YouTube  to see how many videos are uploaded there on your topic and which specific sub-topics are most popular or viewed. 

    (Checking large marketplaces is a necessary step to throw out ideas for which there is no paid market.)

    Market research strategy #6: Facebook

    Lastly, my favorite and personal tip to do highly targeted market research is to ask in Facebook group. 

    Your Tasks Today is

    • Join Facebook groups that are related to your niche 
    • Start posting by asking questions related to your course topics or niche in the group feed. 

    You might write .. 

    Hi beautiful, I need help with my market research. What are most [x] problems when it come to [x]. 

    • Eg What are most moms’ problems when it comes to parenting? 
    • What are most students’ problems when it comes to achieving a good exam result? 
    • What are most coaches’ problems when it comes to getting leads and making consistent income? 

    You might be surprised how many people will respond to your specific question. Choose FB groups that are active and has a high engagement rate

    ‘Yes of course you do!’ I think everyone does. And selling an online course is one of the easy routes to start your online empire especially when you do it right.. 

    So you may be just like me, a multi-passionate business owner and you might have tons of course ideas on your bucket list. To avoid overwhelm and have major success, we however need to niche down. So in this post, we will talk about How to Niche Down and Decide on Your Perfectly AIigned Course Idea.

    Understanding your ‘why’

    You may have an idea about your course topic, but don’t rush into creating it just yet. 

     It’s very important that you are clear on what is your profitable course idea and why it is the best course topic for you, your branding, and your audience.

    Getting clear on your “why” will ensure that you create the exact course that your ideal customer wants, solve their problems, and the one that stands out from the crowd and most importantly the one that makes you feel good for the long term.

    There are three boxes your course idea has to “tick”, in order for it to be a top course creator in your niche.

    It has to…

    • Focus on something you are passionate about teaching—something so easy for you, (p/s you might often take it for granted)

    • Solve the current most urgent problem or need for your ideal customers

    • Be in complete alignment with you and your business brand

    Brainstorm as many ideas as you can but before you spend any more time on a particular idea, run it against the checklist of these three boxes, and make sure it hits all three✅.

    Let’s go through these three criteria one by one, to see why they are so crucial to create the best selling and an exceptional course…

    Checklist 1 : Identify Something You Are Passionate About

    Knowing the “why” of your business is impossible unless you are fully confident and sure of the “who” in “who you are”.

    This involves recognizing your strengths, skills and talents, accepting your weaknesses, and realizing that you are a unique person. Always remember that there is no one else like you with what you teach and your experiences.

    So to identify something you really are passionate about, list down ..

    • your strengths
    • your skills and talents
    • your achievement
    • what you can spend hours on without realizing the time pass by
    • what you actually love that brings joy and creative outflow inside of you..

    When you understand why you love and hate the things you do, why you struggle with certain things, where your values lie, what you love about yourself and what you hate, it suddenly becomes much easier to step onto your zone of genius and create something that sets you on fire and brings you joy.

    Teaching a course that sets you on fire and brings you joy is an almost certain guarantee that you’ll do the same thing for your audience and students.

    Plus when you do something that you love, there is a higher chance that you going to do this online course business for a long term.

    Thus this is a powerful place to start figuring out before you start creating an online course.

    Checklist 2 : Solve The Most Urgent Current Need For Your Ideal Customer

    The best-selling online course is the course that solves a painful problem and urgent needs.

    So how you can identify your ideal customer’s current most urgent need?

    (P/s you can ask directly to your audience -what is their problem and what is their urgent need but sometimes they don’t even realize that they have the problem and what they actually need to solve it.)

    So, As a leader in the online course world, you might have to answer these few questions yourself.

    • What the current course world is NOT supplying your ideal customer/student with, right now
    • “Missing pieces”- What other competitors may be deliberately not included in their course
    • What you can add that will make your course better aligned to your audience than every other expert’s course on the similar topic
    • What your audience is actually looking for vs. what is available online

    For example, are there only advanced courses on a topic, when what she needs is a beginner-level introductory course?

    Are current courses on the topic far too generalized and intensive, when what she needs is simply a course to teach her how to do one specific task?

    And why are you the best person to help her out of this dilemma?  

    Above all, what will she gladly and happily pay for, and how much will she be willing to pay? 

    Checklist 3 : Be in Alignment with Your Business Brand

    Finally, the last crucial test to apply to your course idea is :

    Ask yourself, “Is this course in alignment with my business brand?

    It’s important to look at your Big Picture when you are planning courses, rather than only being reactive to clients’ needs.

    Let’s say you are teaching a “Transform Your Sales Funnel” course, and you are getting repeated complaints from your subscribers that they are getting bogged down by not understanding how email software works, how to segment lists or even set them up in their autoresponders, that’s a genuine problem that could potentially distract them and make them drop your course.

    The problem is real—they’re talking about it. So what do you do? 

    You have more than one option in offering a solution.

    The real question is: Which one should you choose? 

    For example, you could:

    1. Include a VA package as an upsell they can add, promising a one-time, 5-hour block of time from a VA partner to do the whole thing for them
    2. Provide links and resources sending them to tutorials or services they can check out
    3. Make it a component of your course and teach them how to do it
    4. Run a separate course on Autoresponder Management

    There’s no one “right” answer to this—much depends on your particular audience and your own skills and interests plus on your brand, but if it’s a problem that might result in distracting people away from what you’re trying to teach, you do want to address it in some fashion. 

    But do you really want to run a separate “Easy Autoresponder for Beginners” course if you are building your brand around “Sales Funnels” to a high-end clientele with the money to outsource?

    The answer is most likely “No!That’s not in alignment with your locus. A better solution would be to recommend outsourcing services and provide links.

    If you are a life coach, however, and your business is all about building self-esteem and removing blocks, ‘Autoresponder Management’ courses would actually weaken and dilute your brand. They’re irrelevant to your specific locus.

    Look at the Big Picture and answer these questions to ensure your course idea is in alignment with your business brand..

    • What do you want to be known for? 
    • What level of client do you want to work with?
      • Beginner
      • Intermediate
      • Advanced
    • What income do you want to make?
    • What income bracket do you need to target in order for that goal to happen?

    All this needs to be taken into account when you decide on the right idea for your course.

    If you become reactive and start trying to solve every need, you will be guilty of “piece-mealing” your business—jumping around, trying to be a jill-of-all-trades.

    Specialize and make sure your courses enhance your specialty.

  • The Biggest Mistakes I have made as a Blogger and Business Owner

    Welcome the Biggest Mistakes I have made as a Blogger and Business Owner that no one share on the internet.. (haha, a little exagerrated here- of course there’s bloggers that shared about this  but this blogpost is based on my personal experience)

    During writing this blogpost, I had night shift work as a training medical doctor where I work from 8pm till 1pm the next day (Its a 17 hours shift guys).

    My normal daily shift as a training doctor was from 7am till 9pm (14 hours per day)  … I have 2 night shifts every week, and one off day in a week.. This was basically my work schedule as a training doctor in Malaysia.. 

    Despite being very busy, during my free time , I like to create new digital products for my shop or consume content via blog or Youtube.

    I feel numb for a while solely because it has made me realize the biggest mistakes that I have committed for the span of 3 years.. from 2019-2021

    Well, thanks God I am not commiting a crime in case you wondered but I have made this huge mistakes that I don’t want you to do the same as a blogger or a someone who want to start an online business.

    I’m going to list down the mistakes that have I made as a blogger and a business owner down below so that you can learn from it and avoid these mistakes..

    MISTAKE #1: TRY TO CREATE A COURSE TOO EARLY

    When I think of this mistake back, I feel mad of  those videos and courses that I consumed for the past three years on how to create an online course.

    Personally I feel like those who are selling courses on ‘How to Create An Online Course Business’  doesn’t specify who are really fit to start online course business.

    Everybody believes that everybody can create a course, but the fact is that not EVERYBODY can create a course

    I was too naive and too fool to think that I can create a course where  I don’t have the skills and capability to create a course yet.

    These has costed me 1 year of not blogging for free, create content for my blog and build an email list first. I am too focus trying to learn how to create a course which led me in a wrong tunnel.

    First thing first , why I want to create online course instead being a free blogger?

    Online course business is a very profitable and high margin profit business. Imagine making impact on other people lives while making such a high income that is good enough to pay your bills , have a great vacation and buy anything you like for yourself and your family..

    Best thing is you get to live on your own term and be your own boss. This is what I want. Freedom.. 

    The reason why I was trapped here because I guess a lot of people said ‘course route’ is easy money-making route and is like get rich fast scheme (which is not 100% true).

    As someone who want to start a business myself, I am hooked! Well the fact is, it takes lotttt of efforts,brainstorming and knowledge to get a course launch successfully..

    Having said that , I also do not aware and don’t have the exposure that blogging business is also very profitable. I don’t know why would I choose the ‘course route’ instead of ‘blogging route’ which is easier and less pressure.

    I also have read mutiple blogs that have generated 5k-30k per month . Can you believe that they don’t even have a course and they basically don’t bother about it.

    Plus, I  a lot of missing puzzles.

    The missing puzzles are

    • Don’t know what niche I am in.
    • Don’t know what I am an expert about.
    • Not good with informational content creation

    As you can see, there is a lot of missing puzzles here and if you are really interested in creating a course, best advice that I can give to you is you should really nailed your niche, experties,content creation and get a coach or a course that would teach you step by step.

    Pro tips for someone who still want to create a course

    I suggest you to do list down all the things that you are good at and what you can teach others. You can brainstorm  your own techniques or methods on achieving something that you knowledgable about.

    You don’t have to have all figure out, especially on a systems , tech and everything.

    And also you don’t have to get all the content of your courses figured out.  

    The  point of making courses is to help others to achieve what you have achieved because there are someone in the world who are just lower than you, which means they need your strategy, your content, your teaching to improve and level it up.

    But remember, if you did not have the puzzles that I am missing above, forget about creating a course, start a blog instead!

    MISTAKE #2: DO NOT HAVE SPECIFIC NICHE

    Deciding a niche is really difficult for me in the early days because I have this syndrome called as SOS – ‘ Shiny Object Syndrome’.

    I am not trying to start a niche-specific blog first so that I know what I love and what I can to talk about for hour.

    Instead I am trying to create a course where I don’t really have the niche clarity, skills,experience and the quality it needed to create a course plus I try to teach something that I haven’t gotten any result yet. Confusing right?

    Pro Niche Tips –

    You need to know what topics do you interested and what topics that you can talk for an hour.

    What topics that you can teach or share without cramping your head out and without referring to a notes or books, to know exactly that is your niche..

    MISTAKES #3 TOO MUCH SELF-PRESSURE

    I can’t deny that I have this perfectionist disease that attacks at random time. I just want the best out of the best.

    So, if I were to start a blog and create a course, I want to create one that has best quality, best content and the one that will exceptionally help others make transformation.

    Therefore, I force myself and put too much pressure looking for content, trying to create a full fledged course and because I try to teach something that I haven’t gotten any result yet, I plan to learn and memorize those lessons before I teach it to other which has costed me severe overwhelmed and burn out. Due to this, I have taken months off, detaching myself from the online business world. Major loss.. 

    Pro Tips –

    Never ever put too much pressure to yourself. Sometimes minimum viable is the best way to get started. Always create a plan first before start doing something for your business.. 

    MISTAKES #4 THE BELIEVE SYSTEM AND THE QUALITIES

    Wrong believe system is very dangerous.

    I believe blogging would takes years to make money. I believe I only can earn income from my blog via advertising.  I BELIEVE I can create a course in one month without any skills and experiences.I believe I can launch a course and generate thousands dollar per month without any audience..

    Let me tell you , these are a bad believe system..

    Well just like other people said that everybody can be a course instructor.

    (I repeat here : Not everybody can be a course creator and instructor within just a blink of an eye…). Teachers went to college to get a teaching degree for a reason. Text-books existed for a reason..

    So you  definitely need an experience, skills, and the qualities to become a  course creator otherwise it will be a very difficult pathway for you..

    In case you are wondering, the qualities needed are

    • Experience
    • Some Tech Knowledge
    • Content and materials
    • Teaching skills

    Because of I had this false believe, it had stray me away from blogging properly. So I ended up not creating a blogpost for almost 1 year..

    Pro Tips –

    If you are not making daily sales or you are stuck at certain income level,pull out a paper and start assessing your believe system.. 

    MISTAKES #5 NOT BEING VISIBLE

    Because of the mistake that trying to create a course a little too early without nail down my niche and build an audience first , it makes me delay of being visible to the world.

    For three years I was been invisible, and this is really sad, because I wasted three years of my time trying to do something that was not legit for me thus I kept pivoting every other months.

    I try to create a course about something then pivot then decide not to.

    Hence, everything left hanging and not completed,. I spend my money on a lot of resources that I feel were going to help me in creating a course and coaching programme but in the end, it just a waste..

    So how can you be visible?

    Answer : Blogging! Blog more ,  visible more.. or use social media. Personally I love Tiktok 😉 Tiktok has helped scale my business to 6 figure. 

    MISTAKES #6 TRYING TO TEACH SOMETHING I DON’T KNOW YET

    Imagine you want to start a cooking class when you never cook before.. That is how I’ve tried to blog and teach a course topic that I’m not even know of. I just have this believe that I can teach others when I read one chapter ahead of others.

    Why I try to teach a topic that I don’t know about? It is because I know that topic is money-making topics , so I try to create a course on that topics (Shiny Object Syndrome). This is the biggest, biggest mistakes I ever did.

    It is true that you can teach others when  you read one chapter ahead but it just not applicable on everything and to everyone , especially a beginner like me..

    MISTAKES #7 NOT FOCUS ON MARKETING

    Marketing is VITAL in any type of business.

    Even though you have the greatest product or content in the world, you’re not able to sell it if you do not market it and nobody see it.

    Learn marketing more for sake of your business.

    Pro Tips –

    Just focus on one marketing platform first to see a massive growth. Either Pinterest,Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook or Linked in, just pick 1-2 and really harness it for the first 3 months of your business. 

    MISTAKE #8: NOT BUILDING AN AUDIENCE FIRST & not making impact for free.

    Well , you would realized by now that building an audience is very important as a blogger or as a business owner.. 

    You can build your audience through

    -Blogging
    -Email subscribers
    -Facebook group
    -Facebook fan page..
    -Pinterest
    -Instagram
    -Twitter
    -Linkedin
    -Clubhouse

    Generally I can conclude that my overall mistakes is not start be a serious blogger,create consistent content and build an audience first..

    MISTAKE #9 NOT CREATING HELPFUL POST

    Lastly, I have a blog before that I created and blogging since secondary school. That blog has 4k subscribers with a total of 1million+ pageviews. That is because back then, I was consistently drive traffic to my blog via blogwalking which means visit for visit.

    I realize that even back then, I was not as successful as other top bloggers who had way more followers and way more blog views .

    Why? that was because I was not creating a helpful content like guides, tips, checklists, and click-worthy content..

    TURNING POINTS

    Today during writing this post, was a huge turning point for me.  I feel frustrated to those people who introduce me to create my own course a little too early, instead of being visible first.,

    I could just start be a blogger first..

    I feel like if I start being a blogger 3 years back, I would have created more content in my blog, sharing beneficial contents and then start creating mini courses when I’ve gained more clarity of what my niche is and what ther people want from me..

    Well in the span of three years, I barely be visible anywhere. I am not visible on Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and even blog, I just have Instagram account and Youtube channel that I no longer post content and barely make any income.

    but thankfully,

    While I was consuming those courses, I sustain my digital product shop on Etsy and that was where my most side income came in.

    At least I achieve something..

    I have my own Etsy shop where I sells digital products since late 2019 .I’ve created a small movement while consuming those courses,I create Canva templates and business toolkits.

    I now able to earn $500 to $1,000 per month from those digital products.

    You should focus on being visible either  creating content on your blog first or on your Instagrams, YouTube, LinkedIn podcast, or everywhere.

    Before you create a course,create content for free.

    Yes, this is not the money making activities, but you need to do this first for a least 3 months to figure out what you really love about and what you can talk easily for an hour..

    These are my biggest mistakes that I have made as a business owner and a newbie blogger. I hope you learn a lot from this post and can resonate with certain points.
