This is my non B.S tips, if you would like to know what has make me sales on Etsy and what has costing me sales on Etsy, read on.
So you started an Etsy shop, now what? This can be one of the most overwhelming feelings in the world. I remember making a lot of mistakes when I first opened my shop and I’m wondering why I’m not selling anything on Etsy.
In this blog post, I’ll reveal some of my worst mistakes that prevented me from making sales in my first month on Etsy.
I’ll also share how you can actually fast-forward and avoid all of my mistakes. I want to help you overcome the hurdles that I have come across in my Etsy journey.
In light of who I am, why should you trust me? When it comes to this topic, why am I the one to talk about it?
Hello there, my name is Anys. I am a mom, a doctor, and a digital product seller.
My three years of selling on Etsy have been extremely rewarding.
I’ve sold over a thousand digital products on Etsy and have created over 100 digital products. I work full-time as a doctor and have a 4-month-old son, but I make six figures as a solopreneur and team of one by selling digital products (on Etsy and through digital courses) (myself).
What should you not do Etsy?
Never took other people work and sell on Etsy. Also never post something that is not copyright free. For example, posting a listing that contains picture from Pinterest
Without further ado, let’s get started with my top 5 worst mistakes I have made on Etsy.
So,here are top five mistakes that costing me sales on Etsy.
These are my top mistakes on Etsy that costing me sales .
Mistake 1: Overthinking branding.
I remember when I was just opening my Etsy shop, I spend a lot of time thinking how my branding will look like. I keep changing my Etsy shop banner, icon logo as I can’t make my mind which design is the prettiest. This has cost me time that I should put onto more important stuff.
The first thing I recommend you do, or not do, as soon as you open your Etsy shop is to not be too concerned with your Etsy branding. I know this might be contradict with other Etsy coach advice, but you shouldn’t only be thinking about your branding where you should be thinking about creating a good SEO optimized product first.
I’m not saying that branding is not important at all, but when you are just getting started, there are other things that are way more important for you to get sales and for you to instil trust in the Etsy customers.
So don’t worry about branding too much when you’re just getting started. What I really like to advise my Etsy students to do is simply upload any beautiful free stock photos they find on the internet.
You don’t have to think or take a long time, like days or weeks, to brainstorm your branding. You don’t have to add unnecessary headaches when you’re just getting started on Etsy.
Don’t think about branding too much. You can think about branding seriously when you pass 50 or 100 sales. It’s about getting sales first.
What you can do instead to get sales on Etsy FAST is..
There are a lot of beautiful stock photos on the internet.
Example of website that provides FREE stock photos includes
* Pexels
* Unsplash
* Canva
* Ivory Mix (up to certain amount)
* Haute Stock
So just download those stock photos and make them your official banner in Etsy shop, your shop icon and shop profile picture.
However, in 2023 ,branding your Etsy shop couldn’t be easier as there are so many digital product sellers that sell Etsy Shop Branding Kit.
Here is some of my recommendation.
- Pink Color
- Orange- Peach color
- Boho color
- Black color
You can recreate this on Canva if you want to save some money. Just keep in mind your Etsy shop banner should be 1700 px x 2000px , Etsy Shop Logo icon and profile picture is 500px x 500px
Branding your Etsy shop includes
* Etsy Shop Banner
* Etsy Shop Logo Icon
* Etsy Shop profile picture
* Etsy Product Cover Listing
Use whatever resources you have.This is exactly what I did when I just getting started.
Don’t overthink or worry about your branding ESPECIALLY when you are just getting started.
Mistake 2 : Not focus on quantity of product’s Listing
The next thing that I wish I would have known when I just got started on Etsy is to upload as many listings as you can.
Well, I have this one story about me from when I was just getting started on Etsy in 2019.
My first ever listing that I remember trying to create was a planner. I tried to create and sell a planner because I am obsessed with the planner. Until now, I’m still obsessed with planners. I love seeing beautiful planners, and I want to make my own as well. I want to sell my own planner collection or my own planner edition.
But you guees what? A planner has 500 pages, 700 pages, or even 1000 page. It took a lot of work to design a hyperlink and clickable planner.
So I spent about two weeks creating one listing, and that was that ONE planner, and I put all my energy and time into those two weeks creating one listing.
After that, I just kept waiting. Because you all know. Patience is key on Etsy.
But actually “Patience is key” on Etsy is also applicable in certain circumstances. It is only applicable when you have already worked hard to add a large number of listings to your Etsy shop.
But, contrary to what I did, I just had one listing, and I waited, so it did not work, guys!
You cannot be patient and depend on your one listing. Even though that one listing is like, “super incredible,” where you have poured all your energy, all your money, and all your resources into creating the most beautiful, stunning exclusive product ever,
Still, one listing is not enough.
What you can do instead to get sales on Etsy FAST is..
What I suggest for you to do as soon as you open your Etsy shop is not to upload one listing, but to upload 10 listings.
Do whatever you can, but make 10 listings, guys; that is key when you are just getting started on your Etsy shop.
It’s that SPRINTING mode that matters.
Mistake 3 : Writing short descripition and not focus on keyword density
The third thing that I will do is write an extensive description.
If you want to be successful on Etsy and make sales quickly, you must write a long, SEO-rich description.
I know some people say that no, you don’t have to write long descriptions.
Well, my strategy or method on how to get Etsy sales fast, on the other hand, is unique.I have taught this method to thousand of my Etsy students and it work like a charm!
I like to write long descriptions because it is a new shop, right? Who is going to trust us if we are either a real Etsy sellers or a scammer when we write a short description?
Who will believe us if we only have one or two sales when we are just getting started?
So to instill trust, we need to make sure we cover as many objections that our customer might have, and that is where we answered their objections in our descriptions.
So you want to tell them every single detail they need to know about your products.
When I said write ten pages of SEO descriptions, I didn’t mean copy and paste the same thing over and over again. Of course not.,
What I mean by “write long descriptive descriptions” is that you cover everything that your ideal customer needs to know. When you are writing descriptions, make sure to make them SEO-rich. That’s how you’re going to push your product up in the Etsy search results.
When your ideal customer searches for a keyword associated with your products, you want to appear on the first page.
Mistake 4 : Not patient and don’t give up easily
The fourth thing I would do as soon as I open my Etsy shop is to be patient and not give up.
Etsy listings take time to mature especially if you are a new shop. Etsy is just about to get to know YOU and your business. Use tips 2 and 3 first to build your credibility or quality score inside Etsy.
If you are not getting sales yet, it’s okay. Keep building your listing. This is your business, and it is going to be your empire. Later on, you might want to expand it to having your own website and your own Shopify store.
So, despite the fact that you aren’t getting sales right now, be patient.
Mistake 5: Does not have realistic goals and stick to it
It is difficult to focus and grow your shop without a clear goal. I have a strong desire to make passive income on Etsy, which is why I am still able to balance work and hustling for my business. Maintain your desires and set a realistic goal that you can achieve on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
Always keep your goals in mind at all times in order to achieve it.
Okay, so that’s all for this blogpost. These are all the five things that you need to do as soon as you open your Etsy shop, or the five things that I wish I would have known before I started my Etsy shop.
Good luck, and I’m rooting for you.
